About Me, Martin Olsson
I'm a Swedish-born artist who lives and works in Buxton, Derbyshire. Besides having drawn and painted since I was very young, I have held workshops in schools, collaborated with many artists and galleries as well as worked in illustration, animation and fine art.
Having worked with children before, I find that their preference for lightning-quick, humourous and above all simple drawings is something I very much share.
To be able to quickly express oneself in a drawing is wonderful, and I want to encourage everyone to have a go at this.

"Firstly, we would like to say thank to Martin for visiting the school and passing on his expertise to the children and staff. Martin inspired the children as he made them feel confident and comfortable when it came to doing their own drawings. Since the session the children have been enthused to carry on practicing the skills and tips that Martin passed onto them. Martin broke down the drawings into easy to follow steps which meant that all the children could succeed. They especially loved the top tip on how to use eyebrows to change their characters expressions! Overall Martin had a calm and reassuring presence when working with the children which meant that they were all fully engaged as they eagerly awaited each instruction. This was a fun and enjoyable session and we would recommend Martin to any school."

"Thank You so much your visit to our school. We had a truly inspirational illustration day which surpassed all of our already high expectations and the children were enthralled by your skills and teaching. The impact on the children's drawing and illustration skills have been noticeably long lasting as they have continued to use the step by step lessons you taught them. One of my Y3 children has set up his own lunch time drawing club run by the children as a result of your visit. Also a parent of a child in my class told me that her son had gone home and said to her that it had been his "best day ever". You can't do better than that! Thanks again for a thought provoking and inspiring day."

"Martin visited our school, Belgrave St. Bartholomew's Academy, for two days and spent time sharing tips and advice to the children in Key Stage 2 on how to create illustrations. The children thoroughly enjoyed their experience with Martin and gained a new love for drawing. Martin linked his drawings to our topic of the Vikings and shared secrets of the trade. Children are still talking about them today!
We will definitely be asking Martin to come back soon!'"

"Quote from Kaif 'can he come in everyday?' Haha my Year 1 class loved it :-) also very excited by the fact he is Andy Tooze's friend."
"Martin was fantastic - he had a lovely way with the Y3 children (and us adults) and got the children drawing almost immediately. The children were engaged and inspired and he was very funny!"

"Martin was so accommodating when he visited Hunslet Carr Primary School. He delivered two workshops catered to the needs of the children with minimal equipment and mess but maximum fun and creativity. The children came back to class excited to show everyone what they had drawn. It was lovely to see them taking such pride in their artistic achievements!"
